My Style: Striped Sweater

On Saturday my mom and I did a little more shopping, getting lost in Kate Spade & Henri Bendel. I ended up with a new gold bangle that fits perfectly, I have small wrists and bangles usually slide right off. My mom picked up some orange skinnies & some new stationary. I may have also found my bridal heels. What do you think, should I get them?!

My Style: Thanksgiving

 Old Navy Sweater {Similar} // UO Scarf {Similar} // Gap Jeans // Target Loafers {Similar} // BaubleBar Necklace // Shira Melody Bracelet

I believe we should have four day weekends more often. Enough time to spend with friends, family, savor the Thanksgiving leftovers, enjoy too much wine, game nights and cuddling with your loved ones, and finally decorate for Christmas. We ate way too much at my boyfriend's Thanksgiving then we drove to Iowa City to meet up with my family. Upon arriving I was informed that we would be heading to our local outlet mall for a little Black Friday shopping...something I've never done before! From 10:30pm - 1am we shopped until we dropped. I ended up with a few things for myself and even a few things for the boy for Christmas. A successful haul, however; I think I value my sleep and shopping from a computer a little more than the craziness of Black Friday shoppers :)

And on a complete side note, this girl has some new hair! Though the photos make my hair looks a bit more red in these photos than it is in real life {which I don't mind in the least}, I could not be more thrilled with how it turned out! If you are in the Des Moines area make sure to ask for Robin at Estilo Salon & Day Spa

Don't forget to head over to Chloe Rose Boutique - 30% off your entire purchase {excludes sale items} with the promo code CMBRUNETTE30. Valid from November 26th-30th!

Pin Dot

Splurge vs. Steal: Pin Dot

AG Polka Dot Ankle Stevie // Old Navy Printed Capri

This is why I love Old Navy. Plain and simple. Their commercials could use some fine tuning, but I'm the first to admit its the first place I stop when I'm looking for something on-trend and not wanting to spend a fortune.

Where do you go when looking for on-trend, affordable pieces?

My Style: Pink Lady

{Pink Jeans, Old Navy Sweater, J.Crew Clutch {similar}, Banana Republic Factory Flats {similar}, Spike the Punch Necklace}

This is what I wore last Sunday - lounging, cleaning my closet, and running errands.  These pants were $8. I kid you not - only $8.  Best decision of my life. So was this sweater, which I also have in gray {see how I styled it here}.  Like many others, I'm trying to wear more color this spring and I have a feeling these jeans will be quite the staple over the next few months!
Happy Friday & Happy {early} St. Paddy's Day!

floral pants

{Zara pants {similar}, Target Tee {similar}, Old Navy Vest, Forever 21 Necklace {similar}, Fossil Watch}

I love floral print and I love lived-in baseball tees. And of course, I love them even more when paired together.  My boyfriend is convinced that, at some point, these pants were my grandma's table cloth - but he finally admitted that they were growing on him.  I wore this outfit to our Girls Night Out event at worn, last Thursday night with A Sequin Dress at Breakfast.  Make sure you head over to her site to see some great snapshots of our event!

reader question: chic on a shoestring budget

Q: I need to update my wardrobe, however; I have one major problem, I have no money! I'm in my second year of law school and have a very limited budget.  My coveted sweats aren't acceptable any more! I would love to invest in versatile pieces for a very affordable price that I can pair with jeans but still be able to dress up.  I want to look classy and conservative jumping between classes and my internship.  I need your help!

A: When upgrading your wardrobe, on a budget, it is important to focus on investing in versatile key pieces that can be easily mixed and matched with one another.  With jeans being acceptable to wear to class and your internship, don't be afraid to invest in at least one pair of dark washed jeans that can be easily dressed up.  Key layering pieces could include a boyfriend or structured blazer, a chambray button up, a striped shirt, and a structured blouse.  A faux-leather skirt or shirt dresses help keep your wardrobe chic and versatile.

Using basic pieces, I've created three looks below that would transition great from meetings to internships to class.  {All items used to create these outfits were for under $75.}

Law School Wardrobe Part 1

If you are interested in spending a little bit more for an investment piece, a tip I've picked up through perusing many personal style blogs, is to try and create at least three different outfits with the article of clothing in question. This helps to ensure that you will wear shirt/dress/skirt/pants/shoes more than once and it won't end up in the back of your closet.

The outfits below utilize a great structured silk blouse from J.Crew for $98.  You can dress it down to go to class with a pair of dark skinnies and brown boots, pair it with a faux-leather skirt and flats for your internship, then spice things up a bit with color blocking for a night out. {All items used to create these outfits were for under $125.}

Graduate Wardrobe Part 2

Skinny cargo pants are very versatile for the graduate student.  I picked mine up at Gap on major sale {see here}.  Do not be afraid to hit the clearance section of stores like J.Crew, Old Navy, Gap.  These stores offer great basic pieces that once on clearance you can hardly say no to!

Once again, following the rule of three, can be mixed and match to dress up or down even these lovely cargos.  {All items used to create this set were under $115 (minus some of the jewelry).}

My Style: Chambray + Stripes

Who still takes mirror pictures, anyways? This girl, that's who.  How very myspace of me, I know.  I wore this outfit last Friday to work and then to the ypc dsm kick-off party. I had just received the striped stylemint tee the night prior, and had preceded in trying out five different outfits before ending up in this.  It was a game time decision to layer with my go-to chambray shirt.  Ended up loving how it looked paired with my trusty paige jeggings and old navy boots.

casual weekend style: sarah michelle gellar

{splurge: sweater // steal: sweaterjewelmint necklace; pants; splurge: biker boots // steal: biker boots}

Let me introduce to you my first outfit of 2012.  My mission, if I chose to accept, was recreating Sarah Michelle Gellar's outfit that I first spotted over on The Vogue Diaries.  Her look: a perfect errand running, holiday celebrating, casual Sunday outfit.   Perfect for braving the high winds and New Year's rush at the movies. If you couldn't tell yet, I took in an afternoon showing of the new Mission Impossible movie. All around two thumbs up - on the movie, Jeremy Renner, & the outfit.

sequins & chambray

Last night I pinned this sequin number from Lilly's Style and knew instantly I had to recreate it - and for once I had all the pieces hanging in my closet.  This outfit is a bit out of my comfort zone, I normally wouldn't layer such a statement piece over a chambray top, but that's what is amazing about the blogging world, seeing similar items that I own, put together in different ways on other style blogs - I loved how it looked on Lilly & knew that I should take the risk myself!

glistening sequins

sequin skirt
Inspired by this J.Crew outfit - I donned my favorite sequins & topped it off with a cozy sweater at work yesterday.  Instead of wearing heeled ankle boots {similar} for a night out - I slipped on my go-to Steve Madden boots and was out the door.  Let's just say this sequin skirt was made to brighten moods after a long day of work!

baby it's cold outside

Inspired by this editorial spread from Herschel Supply, I recently invested in the coziest Fair Isle sweater from Old Navy, perfect for the upcoming wintery weather. It was a love at first sight type of moment; I walked into the store and knew it was meant to be. It can be paired with leggings, jeans, or a dress; it can be layered with a t-shirt, thermal, or blouse.  I can tell we are going to be the best of friends, especially after picking up the Saturday Pant from the J.Crew Factory store that just opened up about an hour away from my house {which, for the record, may slowly be the death of my bank account}.

We are going to be the three best friends anyone could have.
