Event: Go Blog Social Recap

{via}

A few weeks ago we held our first ever Go Blog Social conference in Kansas City. I was brought in as the Communications Director and was able to work along five other amazing women. I looked around at each of them and realized that I met every single one of these women {more or less} through my blog. And if nothing is to ever come from The Brunette One, it has at least given me some very special friendships.

I left GBS with such inspiration. I told one of my co-workers the Wednesday before I left that I would have a hard time coming back to work because I would be so inspired about what lies before me with my blog. I can't even begin to describe the feeling of getting together with 80+ like minded individuals, each with a shared passion for our blogs. Whether it be documenting food, crafts, fashion, kids, you name it - we love and live to blog about it.

I left with a renewed sense of purpose and am now left to evaluate where my blog stands today and where I want to take it in the future, and let's just say I have some big plans in the works!

Keynote speaker, Corri McFadden

Sharing the wealth: "Share your knowledge. Who cares if they know how to do it, they'll do it in a different way, you're already doing it successfully!"

Clean out that closet: "If your not using consignment, your not being smart with your closet."

Sage advice: "Never let a situation be bigger than you are."

On traveling: "There is no short road to success. You need the foundation to grow your business and brand."

Networking, Marcy Twete

That 'elevator pitch': "Gravitate to those who are like you and help bring people up with you. Walk your talk and ooze your passion. Who are you? What do you want? What are your skills to get there? What makes you unique? Practice, practice, practice."

Reality check: "You are not your job. You are not your blog. You have a life, family, friends, a person. Talk about your passion and why you started."

The Follow Up: "Handwritten thank you notes, ask for next steps, use the phone, follow on social media. Establish a follow-up calendar. Set reminders, ask for help and constantly reaching out to those in your network."

Why your friends & family don't read your blog: "There is a difference between friends & readers! Sell your blog to your friends & family and make them readers."

PS. Buy her book. I'm reading it right now. It's AMAZING.

Keynote speaker, Meg Biram

Brand Collaborations: "Go after what you want. Initiate the conversation. Concept, design, implementation. Be flexible. Put the time in."

Finding inspiration: "If you aren't living your life & doing cool things with those you love, you won't be inspired to create original content."

Planning ahead: "Plan for Halloween now, shoot next month. Be prepared before the holiday, not during or after. Treat it like a biz."

Getting shit done: "Set goals, make deadlines, create projects. Schedule but be flexible. Original content. Share, engage, network, collaborate."

Be Your Crazy: "Be your crazy...to an extent...in public. Don't be afraid to have a style. A voice. An opinion. Don't try to be everything to everyone."

Keynote speaker, Jeanette Scott

Truth: "3 years in blogging is 10 years in cat years."

We are vain and take photos of ourselves, it's a weird business. If I had to take one thing away from the entire conference, it's this: "Creative work is a gift to the world and your contribution. Don't cheat us, give us what you got."

My Style: Crop Top + Floral Maxi Skirt

Show Me Your Mumu Crop Top & Floral Maxi Skirt {Similar Crop Top & Printed Maxi Skirt} | Zara Heels | Kate Spade Crossbody

This look. Bananas. I went into one of my favorite East Village boutiques, aimee, and walked out with this outfit. It was the first one I tried on and immediately knew this was my day two look for Go Blog Social. While the skirt is awfully long for my petite frame, I knotted it to keep from tripping. This also happens to be my first experience with a crop top and I would recommend that if you want to test out this look, that you wear something high waisted to compliment the sliver of bare skin!

My Style: Color Block Maxi Dress

Greylin Maxi Dress | Zara Sandals | Kate Spade Handbag

If I had to pick a dress to wear for the rest of summer, this would be it. I struggled in the weeks leading up to the conference about what to wear. I knew we would be running around and wanted to be in something stylish yet comfortable, and this dress couldn't be more 'me.' Do you ever have those moments when you put on something and you just know it was meant to be yours?

I wore this for day one of the conference and even ended up having my head shots taken in this by one of our sponsors, Landon Vonderschmidt. I can't wait to see how they turn out!

My Style: Sleeveless Striped Dress

gifted Lily & Violet Striped Dress | Kate Spade Handbag | Zara Heels | gifted T&J Designs Necklace

While I didn't intentionally try and match our GBS logo, I wore this sleeveless number to our welcome cocktail hour last Thursday evening. We greeted our out-of-town guests at Hotel Phillips to kick off the start of an amazing weekend with 80+ bloggers. We got into town Thursday morning and got straight to work stuffing gift bags and finalizing last minute details! I am happy we were able to take a deep breath and enjoy a glass of wine..or two before the craziness started on Friday!

Event: Go Blog Social Conference

{via}

Thanks to the wonderful world of blogging, I’ve been able to make some pretty great friends – if not real life friends, definitely internet blogger besties. Last fall, Kat was gracious enough to host me for KCFW and let me tag along to meet a handful of other KC bloggers for the weekend. I love the community that Kansas City offers its fashion, beauty, and lifestyle bloggers and can only hope that Katelyn and I can start to form that here in Des Moines. But while that may be a work in progress, I bring some amazing news to us Midwestern Bloggers. Kat and her good friend, Sarah Scoop, have announced the launch of Go Blog Social Conference that will be taking place in Kansas City this summer.

Go Blog Social is by bloggers, for bloggers. Kat and Sarah decided to launch this conference to find a better want to connect-the-dots between businesses and bloggers. This conference is all about doing just that, all while having fun and getting social. GBS will feature some talented speakers with great topics that can relate to bloggers of all shape, size, reach, and topic. And this limited-seat conference will give tons of one-on-one opportunities to meet businesses and other like-minded social media/blog lovers. I am lucky enough to help the duo, bringing in my experience in event planning. I am too excited for words!

So now is where you come in. Tickets will be up and available soon for purchase. But in the meantime, the Go Blog Social crew is looking for a group of talented guys & gals that want to help make this conference happen. Yes, that means interns/volunteers! Want to help us launch a blog conference? If the answer is yes and you happen to have some great skills in the social media, graphic design and/or events, department - we need your assistance! The perks, you get to attend the conference for FREE. Check out the website listings for social media, graphic design and events openings and send in your applications by April 10 to be considered. For other inquiries, ideas or if you're interested to be a speaker/panelist, please contact us at info@goblogsocial.com.
